Leadership is the role of positively influencing the experiences of others.

Students explore this through everyday House Community life: noticing what others enjoy, recognising different strengths and creating opportunities for people to take part. They think beyond a position to how they can participate, contribute and make a positive difference throughout their school community.

Help students step into leadership with confidence and purpose

A guided workshop that helps students understand leadership as positive influence, recognise what they can contribute and prepare thoughtfully for the student leadership application process.

Who it’s for

For senior primary students preparing to apply for House, school or other student leadership roles, including students exploring how they could contribute who may not yet see themselves as leaders.

Why this workshop matters

Applying for leadership is a valuable learning experience in itself: students consider what leadership means, how they positively influence others, and what their strengths and experiences could bring to their school community.

This develops Community Capability: learning to participate, receive support and ideas from others, contribute and positively influence the communities we belong to. That learning matters whether or not a student receives a formal role.

  • Different ways people influence others

  • Their own strengths, qualities and leadership experiences

  • The role and community they hope to contribute to

  • How to communicate who they are in an application

  • How to approach the process with confidence and authenticity

  • 10-page Student Workshop Booklet

    Students record ideas, explore their strengths and complete activities alongside the workshop videos. A useful reference when preparing their application.

  • Teacher Guide + four application worksheets

    Practical guidance for teachers, plus worksheets to help students prepare written applications, speeches and interviews. Use the resources that suit your school's selection process.
